It's my job to protect my kids...

...even when they come into you bedroom while you are sound asleep and wake you up because they hear a scratching sound in their room and something flashing is following them. Reed came in early this morning scared and wanting in our bed. After he climbed up between Wes and me I started putting together the tale of the "Scratchy, Flashing Monster." Reed was dragging around a helium balloon that he got at Alexa's birthday party. When the heat would come on it would blow it around the ceiling making a scratching sound. Reed was also wearing his Star Wars pajamas that light up when he moves. The red flashing light was reflecting off the silvery balloon and it followed him because he never let go of the string.

As he lay next to me, he seemed so small. Reed as long as I'm alive I will take very seriously the job of protecting you from those "Silvery Helium Monsters with Red Flashing Eyes."

Reed and Grandpa

Reed and Grandpa had a good time together this weekend. Reed got out Grandpa's bowl of nuts and ate until his tummy stuck out. Once he got a pecan that still had the bitter stuff in it. But that wouldn't deter him. Reed ate them as fast as Grandpa shelled them.

Then they went 4-wheeling. It was a good day.

The Tooth Fairy is smarter than you think.

Yesterday the Tooth Fairy came to Cate's class. She brought a new tooth brush, floss, a 2-minute timer so kids could make sure they brush long enough, and a little tooth-shaped box for the kids to put under their pillow when they lose a tooth. Cate has one SLIGHTLY loose tooth. She's working it. Kids in her class are losing teeth left and right and I think she feels left out. Well, last night she decided to put the box under her pillow to see what would happen. After she went to sleep, I typed up a little message from TF, "Nice Try Cate. From, Tooth Fairy." She woke up very early and checked the box. Then she told Daddy, "I wasn't trying to trick the tooth fairy. I just wanted some money." Funny girl.

Walk the Plank!

Pirate Day at Reed's school.

Is that not the cutest pirate you've ever seen?

Life is good.

Just having a typical morning. Woke up and jumped straight in the shower. Come downstairs where Wes has coffee brewing. Pour myself a cup set it on the counter where is will get cold while I pour Cate some milk, break up a small skirmish among siblings, cut Wes' hair while High King Reed the Magnificent slashes me continually with his sword. After all this I heat my coffee back up in the microwave and sit down to check my email. All the while praising God for how wonderful I have it.

Now it's time to get ready for church. I am thankful we have a roof over our heads, warm clothes and food to eat. For a country where we have freedom of religion. Where we can own a bible, meet with fellow believers, share our faith, sing God's praises in public without fear of being hunted down and tortured or killed. Please pray for the persecuted church today.

Seeing God in Nature

I love that my kids get excited about birds and God's beautiful creation. This morning we had to tear ourselves away from 20+ Goldfinches on the deck eating sunflower seeds so we could get Cate to school on time. Then the drive was so fascinating I had to remind myself to watch the road. The sun was shining on the frost and it looks like God had scattered millions of diamonds all over the grass and trees.

For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse (Rom. 1:20).

The lightbulb came on.

Reed has finally gotten interested in writing. Last Monday it was like his hand and his brain started working together and he wanted to write letters. Upper case, lower case... over and over. He was so excited. I was so proud.
